    No that’s not me, but I’ve done it before. Work related calling though. We don’t have cordless phones in the library, and I had a computer I was working on with someone remotely that was too far for the phone to reach. I didn’t want to trip people by putting a longer wire on the phone, so I busted out my cell phone (sacrificing precious minutes for my job! What dedication!) It was a bad example I was making, I know, but I had no choice.

    However, this guy appears to be just sitting at the ref desk doing it. I assume there’s a landline phone at the refdesk for work related calls. Hmmm. Of course, I don’t know about that library, but we have a no camera policy as well as no cell policy.

    We use cordless phones in our office. We need to walk around the office and possibly out into the stacks to help the patrons. We also have a white rectangular label on the phones that looks similar to his to identify them as work phones.

    Work Phone
    I too have a work phone that acts more as a pager than anything else (and I often use it by our no cell phones sign). I think it’s no different than using a standard desk phone since it is part of my duties to answer incoming work calls.

    It’s too bad that article is archived…
    There is a simple technical solution. However no single company can implement it, and without all companies adopting it, there’s no drive *to* adopt it.

    But yeah, who cares…
