An Anonymous Patron writes “Not yet reported in the press: On June 6, 2005, Representative Crowe of Louisiana reintroduced the resolution instructing Louisiana libraries to segregate controversial children’s materials.
This version, however, expands its target beyond children’s books like “King and King” which contain homosexual themes. Now, the bill urges libraries “to confine certain books and other materials that are age inappropriate for children to areas designated exclusively for adult access and distribution.” The phrase ‘certain books’ would include “books and materials concerning human sexuality and those of an arguably prurient nature.”
An earlier version of this bill died in committee last month.”
You may recognize arguably prurient nature from other “save the children” legislation.
oddly enough
I recently discovered another book that would probably fall into this category. Its called “Where Willy Went”. Only 2 libraries in my area had it and both in their parent’s collections. Its written on a very low level and is about a sperm named Willy. Very strange.
Re:oddly enough
It’s a well-reviewed children’s picture book; humorous take on human reproduction. Sheesh.

“It’s a well-reviewed children’s picture book; humorous take on human reproduction. Sheesh.”
Its a well-done book but its on a level comparable to “Make Way For Ducklings”. Who starts a conversation about where babies come from with pre-schoolers by talking about sperm? I’ll take your Sheesh and raise you a Yikes!
wouldn’t it be cool…
if Representative Crowe and Russell Crowe were related? Tempermental guys with strong accents???
I wish it hadn’t
And of course, the minute I saw that headline, I thought of the song by Sweet:
North side, east side
Little Willy, Willy wears the crown, he’s the king around town
Dancing, glancing
Willy drives them silly with his star shoe shimmy shuffle down
Way past one, and feeling alright
‘Cause with little Willy round they can last all night
Hey down, stay down, stay down down
Draw your own conclusions whether or not the song was written about Willy the Sperm.
Duplicate wording in LA, OK gay-book resolutions
Does anyone know where Rep. Kern from OK and Rep. Crowe from LA got the wording for their resolutions asking public libraries to restrict “materials concerning human sexuality and those of an arguably prurient nature?” They’re nearly identical; it’s possible one cribbed from another, but also possible they cribbed from a Web site like the one that used to be hosted by Family Friendly Libraries, PABBIS, or the like, which would take the wind out of the sails of their “community control” arguments. Anyone know?
