    2. Bad bill on Jones part, pre-acquisition oversight is, in my view, not very efficient. I think he’s over-reaching.

    3. Past President Casiano says: “There is no need for federal interference in a local community’s decisions”. ALA Council passes Sex Resolution, which is in fact federal interference in state and local communities’ decisions.

    IANAL, but it looks like it’s proposing that, in order to receive federal funds, each school district would need to establish a council of 5 to 15 parents, which would meet at least every 6 months and make recommendations about library and classroom materials (except textbooks). Other than providing “significant input” and “recommendations” (neither is defined by the bill) the councils wouldn’t appear to have any authority to actually do anything.

    But “Parental Empowerment Act” sure sounds like it’s accomplishing something, doesn’t it?

    The ALA is the feds? And a resolution which has one “affirms”, two “encourages”, and no actual requirements at all is interference?

    I thought about that afterward. No I’m not saying they are the government, they are a national level organizations trying to interfere with smaller organizations so the comparison is appropriate.
