What we need..
We need a group of laws that allow citizens to carry out RIAA/MPAA-like stormtrooper behavior against companies that abuse our privacy by collecting data and not securing it.
Government authorized vigilantism works for going after 7 year olds, it should work for going after corporations. /sarcasm off
We need to government to make the fines for allowing consumer data to fall into the wrong hands to be an automatic punitative award of damages plus USD1million for any incident. It will stop overnight.

Just a thought…
Remind again why these companies need to harvest so much data in the first place? I see very little justification for it at all. This is one of those times in which I am sad to say that while the US does have a Privacy Act it basically covers only the GOVERNMENT effectively. I more worry about corprorations than the feds in this case…
