Italy pupils ditch books for PCs

Pupils at a school in Italy are replacing all their text books with computers for a year – in what is being described as a unique experiment. More than 60 children – aged between eight and 10 – at Turin’s Don Milani school will be using mini laptops with the full curriculum.

    I hope those laptop screens
    I hope those laptop screens are comfortable to read on. I experimented one semester with ebooks and reading articles from jstor on my computer screen but it was a painful and tiring experience. I could only read a few pages before my eyes would start to blur and I needed to take a break.

    Note taking is also not convenient on a screen (unless you’ve got a tablet).

    These days I just use good-ol’ books and printed journal articles. Even if I had to use eBooks, I would most likely print them out.

    I see why
    They can order the laptops with attached ashtrays. Not so much with the books.
