Internet drives up library use, costs

Vermont Public Radio Takes A Look At Vermont’s libraries. Burnham, like many of Vermont’s 200 public libraries, is struggling to meet the rising demand. Nationally, ten percent of local libraries’ budgets come from state governments. In Vermont, state and federal money accounts for one-tenth of one percent of budgets.

    Cut backs
    It appears that the United States is in a recession. State Federal and local governements all have deficits and will be cutting funding whenever and wherever they can. Libraries like other institutions will not be exempt from any cutbacks.
