Indianapolis PL Director Ed Szynaka – the rest of the story

Xavier Bullwinkle writes “In a previous article, Being a Public Library Director means…never having to say sorry, I posted some information from an Indianapolis Star article that, upon further investigtion, I believe was misleading.
So first, let me apologize. My earlier post, as indicated below, did not accurately portray the entirety of the situation.

Here are some links that support Mr. Szynaka’s position.

A letter from the IMCPL library board to the Indianapolis Star which states that Mr. Szynaka was terminated without cause.

An article from NUVO, Indianapolis’ alternative weekly, (scroll down
to the third paragraph) which suggests
that the reasons behind Mr. Szynaka’s termination were that he didn’t “fit in” with certain people on the library board
(Certainly the library community could do with more people who don’t “fit in.”)

Finally, there may be something to be said for Mr. Szynaka’s apparently contentious relations with some board members. Having criticized Atlanta-Fulton PL director Mary Kay Hooker for unethical actions done at the request of library board members, it seems hypocritical to criticize Mr. Szynaka for not getting along with board members who may place a higher value on Republican party ideology than on service to library users.”
