If you’re one of the many people who only view LISNews through your feed reader, you’ll never notice LISNews now looks completely different.
I’ve recently grown to dislike the way LISNews looked and operated using the Drupal theme I chose during the switchover to Drupal last year. I’m 110% happy with Drupal, but was much less satisfied with the way the site looked.. Today I’ve decided to flip the switch and changed back over to the default Drupal theme. Easy theme switching is just one of the many reason I’ve grown to love Drupal over the past year or so. My call for a custom theme and log got no responses at all, so we’ll go with the unoriginal but very functional “Garland” theme until we can come up with something better.
Though I rarely ever get any, feedback is always welcome.
I’ll take up the challenge
Hi Blake,
I’ve done custom Drupal theming before, and I think I missed your original call for a new theme. If you’re interested in working together on something new for LISNews, I’d be up for the challenge. Please contact me directly if you’re interested.

to be honest
it’s baby blue and boring. But I don’t miss that woman with the fingernail. Maybe some design assistance would improve things.
I Like It
Regardless of colour, I think it lays things out much more attractively. Since I’ve got a long user name, it tended to shove the topics to one side whenever I posted a story. Also, since most of my stories fill more than one topic, the multiple topics would stack and crash and the story would start out with the first word on one line and centred. It looked pretty bad.
Now, with the topics at the bottom, I don’t think it’ll do that! Sure the “new” theme could use some sprucing up, maybe a picture here or there, but all in all, the colour and the layout works pretty well.

Hmm
This will take some getting used to as some elements are flipped between sides.
It should be interesting to see how this turns out.

Hate to say it…
…but I like it a lot better. Way easier on the eyes.
Librarian and information science news?
Of course, you can call your blog whatever you like, but most of us understand and use the acronym “LIS” to mean “Library and Information Science”, not “Librarian and Information Science”.
And yes, I’m a cataloger and yes, anal-retentive takes a hyphen, why do you ask?
Library V. Librarian
Point taken. It’s always been like that, probably just not obvious before now. It’s for librarians, not libraries, so I thought librarian worked better than library. I’ll have very few chances to name anything of any significance in my life, so I’m sticking with it.

L. I. S. News,
Oh, how I love you.
Themes are great on my homepage fave.

I like it, too.
It’s my favorite color, so that helps a lot in my estimation!
Re: Lack of feedback
Ordinarily, you only get feedback when someone thinks something could be done or is erroneous and should be corrected. I would surmise that if you are not getting any feedback, it is because those conditions have not occurred.
Hmmmmm. . . .
Everybody keep an eye on Blake. If we aren’t careful he’s going the make the rest of us look bad.
There is nothing that cannot be found offensive by someone, somewhere.
Add us to that watch list
The podcast production team probably gets even less feedback than Blake!

Ooo Bonus Feature!
Okay, I had a little pet peeve* and this new theme change fixed it.
When I post a story to LISNews, I always preview to make sure links work and things look right. There was a problem with the old theme however. Since I already visited the page I’m posting about, the link was damn near invisible.
On this one, it’s bright blue… period.
Now that’s just sweet!
*Like George Carlin, I do not have pet peeves. I have major psychotic hatreds. This was one of them.

Garland is Nice
Garland works really well for integration and quickness. It’s also has nice post formating. I always find that less well thought out themes in Drupal will break under conditions applied by certain modules or circumstances. TinyMCE for example will not look right in the post field for some themes. Ugg.
Hopefully within the next year Drupal 6 will be better supported with views and CCK. CSS theming is much better and easier to implement with it’s CSS driven themes.
