    Geez,
    I just weeded the vertical file and the library assistants who have been here 12+ years looked at me like I was murdering children.

    No, we don’t need old newspaper articles, no we don’t need things ripped from magazines, and no we most certainly don’t need copyright infringing photocopied book chapters.

    The will be all PO’ed about that for the next few weeks.

    Those people need to get out more!
    We still have a vertical file.

    It has a few newspaper articles (mostly from our poorly-indexed local newspapers), a lot of pamphlets and maps — many from our Federal depository collection — and some printouts from the Internet, especially on new subjects or those of special interest in our area. And other miscellany of the small-and-hard-to-find-if-it-were-on-the-bookshelf sort.

    It still proves useful from time to time, but weeding is essential.
