Anonymous Patron writes “Very Short Omaha.com Article says Residents of Wakefield Nebraska will form a human chain today and Tuesday to move books from the old library to the new one.
Children from the Wakefield Public Schools and other volunteers will pass books from one person to the next in a book brigade that will extend about a half city block from the former Graves Public Library to the new Gardner Public Library, said librarian Nancy Frederickson.
Moving the books is one of the final steps in preparing for the library’s opening at the end of the month, she said. Plans are under way for a dedication ceremony.
Sounds like fun!”
Now they think its a good idea
When I was in Library school, we had a project involving moving a (hypothetical) library from one building to another down the street in as cheap and efficient way as possible. We were going to hire the homeless and the drunks to form a human chain and pass the books along, just as they are doing here. The professor told us we couldn’t do it! Can you imagine?
