How to carry 20 million books

Australian IT Columnist Bruce McCabe has a neat spin on the iPod. He notes if things continued on the same trajectory, by 2013 we could have storage capacity on our iPod of more than 10,000GB – enough to store 20 million books, and all for the same price we pay today. Even if densities don’t continue doubling every year, we can still look forward to a mind-blowing amount of personal storage. This will allow us to keep everything. Good indexing software will no longer be optional, it will be mandatory on every device – and the standard way of retrieving documents.

Imagine having instant access to the contents of every seminar, conference and training course you ever attended, as well as all the random thoughts and good ideas you dictated into your iPod while on the run.

Hype or hope?
