Embattled borough librarian Michele Reutty, under fire for refusing to give borough police circulation records without a subpoena, has resigned.
Reutty’s resignation from her $65,000 position came abruptly Monday, when she left a letter in a manila envelope for library finance committee members before their evening meeting.
She has accepted a job as director of the Oakland Public Library starting December 4. Story from Infoshop.
Shame
It’s a shame that a library director is only making 65k.
police state?
“But part of the controversy concerns Reutty’s other actions: She consulted a lawyer familiar with state library law at the time of the police’s request, not the borough attorney, as is required by borough law.”
Try anarchists paradise.
just out of curiosity…
What is the relationship between InfoShop News and NorthJersey.com? The article going around in the various listservs is from NorthJersey.com and so the author’s email is from northjersey.com but its the exact same article listed on InfoShop except for the altered heading. There’s no link to the original just a listing of copyright. Do they pay NorthJersey for the article? I’ve seen AP articles show up in various sources but this just seems different.
So this is not a story…
Librarian gets better job because she does not like her current job.
I did the same thing, but I didn’t violate my library’s or county’s regulations to upset my bosses.
I wouldn’t have hired her for any management position because it seems she has demonstrated by her actions she is incapable of following instructions and taking direction.
I also would not take a library director job for $65K, geez the hassle a library gets is worth much more than that.
Trouble in Hasbrouck Hts.
I think thismay give you an idea of the sorts of things that are going on in Hasbrouck Hts…the mayor appointing his son as judge??
“anarchists paradise”?
Following the law is anarchy? She called another attorney on clarification, so what? The city attoreny should have been informed because any legal action the city is involved in – like a subpoena of records – should be brought to her attention. It sounds like all the city offices are in one building and the city attorney is whining about something she was already in the loop on but did not get “official” notice of from the library.
