MORE than 100,000 books worth a total of £600,000 have been stolen from libraries in Wales in just two years, the Western Mail can reveal today.
Children’s books, novels and health books have been among those stolen or never returned to branches across Wales.
Welch on a bet
What do you expect from a nation that invented the term, “Welch on a bet” for “won’t pay your debt if you lose the bet”? If their very name means thief, it is not surprising that books are stolen from their libraries. And it is not surprising that the theivery is so widespread.
What is surprising is that they have such good bookkeeping of such gross theft of library books.
R. Lee Hadden (These are my own opinions!)
Misinterpretation?
Seems to me that “welch” is more akin to “cheat” than it is to “steal”.
There is nothing that cannot be found offensive by someone, somewhere.
welch meaning to go back on a deal surely?
And welch is nothing like Welsh anyway.
