Despite speculation that the young stars of the Harry Potter films will outgrow their roles, the director of the latest installment believes they can see the popular series through to the end.
“It would be amazing to have the whole series with the same kids,” Alfonso Cuaron, whose “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” opens worldwide on June 4, said on Tuesday.
“It would be priceless. It would be something very special, for the ages.” ‘Azkaban’ is the third of a planned seven films based on J.K. Rowling’s best-selling book series about the magical students of Hogwarts Academy. Daniel Radcliffe (Harry) and cinematic sidekicks Emma Watson (Hermione) and Rupert Grint (Ron) have so far maintained their enthusiasm for the work, but many wonder whether they will physically outgrow the characters. The trio, who sign for one film at a time, have already begun work on the fourth movie, “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire,” directed by Mike Newell (“Mona Lisa Smile” and “Four Weddings and a Funeral”).The fifth book, “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,” was published last year.”
Maybe they should get better actors…..
Actually, I read the first four to my kids and I thought the books were fabulous; however, I thought that the movies were not very good. I know that is a tired line, but I did think the movies were a big let-down. I guess the hype did it.
Problem is…
That would work if the books were coming out faster… But I’m sure we won’t see book six for at least another year, and who knows how long we’ll wait for book seven?
I want to play Bond…James Bond!
Or so might be the thoughts of Daniel Radcliffe
and the kids that started out acting some
very challenging characters…
They could possibly stick with the roles to
the end…after all film is a media of illusion
and actors often play younger or even older
characters then their actual age…it would
be difficult although not entirely impossible
to see different actors as Harry, Ron and
Hermione.
But the kids all probably would like to do
some other work…maybe something off screen
and even have a “normal” life for a while…
although what they’re growing
up with probably seems normal to them.
It’s also possible that public interest may
wain before the seven movies have been made.
Let’s hope the fame, the stress, and the endless
rigors of production don’t take their toll…In
20 years I don’t want to see any shocking
tell-all book or tragic obituary of any
of these young actors.
