Gone with the Wind back at PG of Australia

David Rothman writes “”Without much fanfare: it seems Gone With The Wind is back in its old spot at Project Gutenberg Australia.” Credit the scoop to the alert Branko Collin, who emailed it to me. No further details available right now. Could PG’s lawyers have concluded they had a better case by restoring GWTW? TeleRead, by the way, appears to have been the first site outside PG to have reported the original takedown–which happened under threats from Margaret Mitchell’s heirs.

The wimpout factor: I called up the Branko-provided URL, glanced at the text and shut my eyes, lest someone think I’d dare go against the spirit of the Sonny Bono Copyright Term Extension Act. Then I did a frantic click on the left arrow of my browser.

Note: The TeleRead site will be down during a move to the ibiblio servers at UNC.”
