Anonymous Patron writes “There are three books discussing the idea of god and god in America in the top 20 bestselling books at Amazon. I didn’t realize this was such a hot topic. I sure there are multiple factors playing into the the popularity of these books currently but would anyone like to speculate on that point?
The books and their rankings are:
At #2 — The God Delusion
At #10 — Letter to a Christian Nation
At #18 — Rediscovering God in America: Reflections on the Role of Faith in Our Nation’s History and Future“
Another title – maybe not as high on the list
…is “The End of Faith” by Sam Harris. I’m actually reading it right now.
He writes very well, but has a philosophy degree, so some of it (I admit) goes over my head in that sense.
As to why there are so many tomes addressing this topic now: I think (not “believe”) humanity stands at a crossroads between faith in what we can’t see, and logic/reason/scientific method which gives us the ability to test for things.
In Harris’ book, I am a “religious moderate.” Therefore, I’m part of the problem in the world as he sees it. 🙂 –Durst

I don’t believe this takes a whole lot of speculation. If God IS out there he will probably be sending us a defamation of character suit very soon. God is in the news everyday..people committing suicide to be near God, people blowing up buildings in the name of God, Mid Eastern and African nations executing people, including minors, while crowds shout “God is Good”. Radical right wing Muslim Thugs are redefining Islam, our own Christian Right is attacking everyone verbally, and our own president has made God a political issue. Is it any wonder that there are at least three books out on God?
