George Will decries librarians needing grief counselors after flood

    Alarmist.
    “To ventilationists — after a flood damaged books at the Boston Public Library, counselors arrived to help librarians cope with their grief — a failure to manifest grief is construed as alarming evidence of grief repressed, and perhaps a precursor of “delayed onset” PTSD.”

    He certainly was not pointing at librarians, but rather the current social worker mentality that all of us need help coping with the various problems, big and little, of life. Also, he was reviewing a book–most of the examples, if not all, are from the book. Having experienced a lot of stacks flooding in my career, I’d have put the counselors to work drying out the books or preparing them for freezing while I complained to my bosses about needed roof repairs. It’s much more therapeutic.
