Parents and educators are concerned that kids get accurate information about sex before becoming an active participant. But their opinions differ greatly on what is appropriate and at what age it is appropriate.
Last month in Montgomery County, MD, a parents’ group, alarmed because revisions to a health education course for 8th and 10th grades included a discussion of homosexuality and a video that demonstrated how to use a condom, went into federal court and gained a restraining order to halt them. The county school board then voted 7 to 1 to eliminate the amended program, six months after unanimously approving it.

Right vs. Might
Considering most of my gay/lesbian friends knew or had a very strong feeling that they were gay/lesbian by the time they were in 8th/9th grade, this is exactly the time this information should be given to them. I understand that parents don’t want their kids to be labeled and treated the way GLBT people are unfortunately treated (treat others how you want to be treated in return people!) but wouldn’t you rather them be informed about safe sex rather than learn it in gym bathrooms or remote areas?? Especially in this case, to little knowledge is WAAAAY more dangerous than to much.
