Fire Sprinker Damages Nampa Library Books

Charles Davis brought us this:

The Nampa [Idaho] Public Library
shut its doors on Wednesday
,
when water suddenly cascaded
down on books and people.
A malfunctioning fire sprinkler
caused extensive damage to
thousands of books on the second
floor. The water also flooded a
picture book section. Many of the
books had to be thrown out. Some are irreplaceable. But others were saved,
thanks to some quick-thinking patrons and staffers. ‘There were people
right there getting soaking wet, it was rather impressive to see a dozen
young adults help our staff to move books,’ said Library Director, Karen
Ganske.
The library will be open from only 1-5 p.m. on Thursday, as library officials
determine the extent of the damage.”

Note: The coolest thing about this story, for me, is that Charles is at Oxford University in England telling all of us about what happened yesterday in a small city in Idaho. Isn’t the Internet amazing!
