Ex-prison Librarian Becomes an Inmate

A former PA prison librarian is headed back to jail, this time as an inmate.

The former Luzerne County Correctional Facility employee was sentenced Friday to two to four years in a state prison for smuggling drugs and other items into the prison.

Luzerne County Court of Common Pleas Judge Michael Conahan sentenced Shawn Cunningham on charges of contraband, bribery, and delivery of a controlled substance.

Police said a confidential informant repeatedly contacted the men, met them at locations off prison grounds and gave them $50 to $200 to deliver a package of drugs and contraband. Each time, the package, with a unique police mark on it, was recovered inside the prison.

The contraband charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of two years in prison. Read More.
