Everett adds international flair to its collection

News On The Everett Public Library, where with the help of a $34,660 state grant, the Everett libraries have purchased 941 Spanish, 455 Russian, 121 Vietnamese and 27 Arabic magazines and books, including the Harry Potter series, available in Russian and Spanish translations.

Library staff discovered a need for fiction and nonfiction titles in those four languages by talking to Everett School District officials, examining census data, and through patrons’ requests, reference librarian Mary Allen said.

“We know folks who are going to survive here are going to have to learn English,” Ooton said. “But this is a way to bring them to the library and welcome them to the community.”
