Effort To Lift Ban On Iowa School Fingerprint Scans

Some eastern Iowa schools hope they’ll soon be able to use a high-tech identification system that’s currently illegal. An Iowa legislator just introduced a bill to lift a ban on fingerprint scanners.
Last July, state legislators passed a law banning schools from using fingerprint scans on students. Some schools, like Cedar Falls, used the technology to track cafeteria purchases or library book use. When the finger scan system was introduced at Holmes Junior High, it was a big hit. Principal David Welter says, “100% of our kids who used it were excited about it.”
