Americans are doing less well than global competitors on a key index of literacy, according to a literacy survey by Central Connecticut State University.
From All Headline News: This study attempts to capture one critical index of our nation’s well-being — the literacy of its major cities–by focusing on six key indicators of literacy: newspaper circulation, number of bookstores, library resources, periodical publishing resources, educational attainment, and Internet resources. The information is compared against population rates in each city to develop a per capita profile of the city’s “long-term literacy”-a set of factors measuring the ways people use their literacy-and thus presents a large-scale portrait of our nation’s cultural vitality,” Dr. Jack Miller, CCSU President says.
Why newspaper circulation is is rapid decline
Although journalists & their running dogs attempt to lay the blame for declining newspaper & news magazine circulation upon, variously, TV, the internet, cable news & publishers not investing enough in their papers, the truth is quite something else.
The MSM in the U.S. is in the throes of committing suicide because its news & editotrial rooms are infested with dedicated Leftists out-of-touch with the mores & values of the majority of Americans.
Americans have grown tired of Leftists in the MSM attempting to jam their countercultural agendas down people’s throats by serving up Leftist propaganda as “the news.”
It’s no accident that conservative papers such as “The New York Post” and “The Orange County Register” have not lost substantial circulation.
“The Gazette” of Colorado Springs once was a conservative paper, but in perhaps 2003 it changed editors, hiring a fellow from Washington, DC. as editor & he turned the paper to the left. As a consequence, “The Gazette” has rapidly been losing circulation.
The Leftist freaks who infest most newsrooms in denial of the reality that the U.S. remains a Center/Right nation.
Fortunately, as newspapers die en masse Leftist infested schools of journalism are bound to follow them into the dustbin of history– eventually.
Leftist?
I stopped getting the St. Petersburg Times a decade ago because they were so pro-abortion, pro-union, pro-taxation and anti-business especially Helen Huntley.
The Tampa Tribune has reduced its local news coverage and now prints a full page single column width section of reprints from blogs daily. If I wanted to read blogs I would go online.
That is why I don’t subscribe to a local newspaper anymore, they don’t cover the real local news they try to compete with cable television and blogs. If they covered local news and did it well with in depth reporting and unbiased investigative reporting I would certainly subscribe. They won’t so I won’t.
“Leftist Freaks”?
While you may be close to reality by referring to a fairly large percent of journalists leaning left politically, I wouldn’t call them all freaks. They’re certainly decent folk by and large.
