The Beeb Says Two authors are launching a High Court action against the publishers of The Da Vinci Code, which they say infringes upon their ideas.
Michael Baigent and Richard Leigh are suing Random House, claiming the bestseller lifts from their 1982 book The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail.
Copyright and ideas
I’m guessing there may be more to this story than is contained in this abbreviated news account. My understanding is that copyright protection did not extend to “ideas” ( I assume that it is the same for most jurisdictions) however broadly you define that concept, but the story suggests that there is definite plagiarism contained in the DaVinci Code
Re:Copyright and ideas
It will be interesting to see if the lawsuit moves forward. Lewis Perdue, who wrote a similar story (to Da Vinci Code) entitled “Daughter of God” also tried to sue Brown and the case was dismissed out of hand.
