Centenarian New Hampshire Library Celebrates

ALSTEAD, NH — The Shedd-Porter Memorial Library, one of the town’s landmarks, is celebrating its centennial this year.

The granite building, which resembles a Greek temple, opened its doors on Aug. 25, 1910. Since then, it has stood while other buildings around it burned or were swept away in the 2005 floods.

Alstead librarian Barbara Davis has been arranging events to celebrate the occasion. She’s been working with the town historical society getting photos and articles about the library to set up as a visual display.

Over the next few months, there will be an exhibit by area artists focusing on the library. She has also asked local art teachers to have the children create projects for an art exhibition. Davis is also planning a period tea party. The grand finale is schedule for late August.
