Canadian supreme court rules school board wrong to ban books

News From Canada where A British Columbia school board was wrong to ban three books depicting same-sex parents from kindergarten and first grade classrooms, the Supreme Court of Canada ruled. In a 7-2 ruling last year, the Supreme Court said the ban imposed in 1997 violated British Columbia law that requires the government-funded school system to be strictly nonreligious.

They said the school board was \”letting the religious views of a certain part of the community trump the need to show equal respect for the values of other members of the community.\”
