Cambridge UP Seeks to Destroy All Copies of Book

Joe Hodnicki writes “To settle a libel lawsuit by a Saudi banker, Cambridge UP has agreed to pulp all unsold copies of “Alms for Jihad” and has asked libraries to remove the book from their collections. Details at Law Professors Blog“

    Nothing as far as I can see even though the settlement requires the publisher to write to libraries and ask them to return their copies. I bet some librarians are looking for boxes right now.

    Perhaps it will be in the Banned Books week Press Kit.

    Perhaps monkeys will fly from my duodenum.

    Amazon does not have it or I would have bought one there. I have asked the nice folks at Inkwood books in Tampa to try and get it but I was cut off when I told her why it was pulled. Seems odd that independent booksellers would not try and get it for me.

    Easons.ie has it and is shipping it out today. If anyone wants to borrow it please let me know.

    Oh, and in case anyone is wondering Khalid bin Mafouz has Irish citizenship so it is a bit odd that they are stocking the book and US stores are not. Additionally he was affiliated with BCCI – a bank in Tampa (and other cities) that was closed because of money laundering (cocaine profits in Tampa) amongst other irregularities including terrorist funding.

    Khalid bin Mafouz established a ‘charity’ the Muwafaq foundation, that is a known financier of terrorist activities of al-Qaeda and listed as such by the US.

    It may just be me but I think if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and establishes a ‘charity’ that funds terrorists, it is a terrorist.

    This will problaby get me whacked.

    Lost Books
    There are also nefarious forces at work in other areas. Several libraries on the Middle East Libraries Association discussion list have discussed the fact that this book appears to have been removed from the shelves of their libraries, and the book may have to be secured to prevent theft from your library. Evidently there are people out there who do not want others to read this book.
          So if you have this book in your collection, you may want to check to make sure it is still on the shelf.
