CA Library says ‘yes’ to exemptions from Patriot Act

NapaNews Reports the Napa City-County Library commission’s public meeting, a crowd numbering in the high 30s — quite a turnout — jammed into the library’s community room, waiting for their chance to voice their opinion on the commission’s plans to adopt one of two resolutions exempting libraries from the Patriot Act.

The specters of McCarthyism, Nazi Germany and burning crosses were brought up as citizen after citizen raised concerns over what many perceived to be the Patriot Act’s “chilling effect” on freedom of speech and even freedom of thought. All those who chose to speak urged the commission to adopt a resolution.
