CA Librarians put law-enforcement Web site to use

Anonymous Patron writes “News From San Bernardino County California; Five Ontario City Library employees believe they may have stopped a sexual predator from committing a crime against a child, thanks to a law-enforcement Web site that lists photographs, addresses and names of registered sex offenders.”

    Very nice.

    I’ll share this with some of my admin type folks. See a few of them are worried that we Circ folks actually keep a binder full of information on the local level II and III sex offenders. Something something about possible discrimination or such like. Meanwhile our stance has always been that we never discriminate against anyone, even a level III. But dammit we want to know who and when they’re in our building and what they’re doing and who they’re doing it around.

    This will make for some decent back up for our side of the argument. The information we get is the same as what’s available on our county websites and we’ve had some problems in the past. It’s not like we read through this binder daily, but if we see a suspicious person, we check them out. A lot of our level IIs and IIIs live right downtown nearby the police station. Did I mention the police station is three blocks up the street?
