Books, unbound

The written word inspires Pat Sherrill.

Scraps of paper. Pages from old books. Letters. Sherrill sees beyond the message — and sees a work of art. She takes used books and decorates them with stamps, paper and paint. She glues the pages together, then cuts them into shadowboxes. She adds embellishments — beads, game pieces, photographs, pop-ups.

In the craft world, her creation is called an altered book, which is sort of a journal, sort of a scrapbook — or whatever else Sherrill wants it to be.
