Microfilming of local UK and Ireland newspapers (1700-1950) is done

The Newsplan 2000 project — to microfilm local newspapers from the United Kingdom and Ireland — announced in December that they have finished filming the newspaper collections from 1700 to 1950. This includes 1,350 newspapers titles, 30,500 reels of microfilm, and 12.2 million pages of newsprint. As part of the project, Kodak will distribute 156 microfilm printer-readers and 314 microfilm readers across the country by March 2005. The £7.3M funding comes from the Heritage Lottery Fund, the regional newspaper industry, and UK libraries. [Newsplan 2000] [British Library Newspaper Library] [HoldtheFrontPage.co.uk]
