Books reach bayous

Cherrie Carlson-Conklin spearheaded a project called “Books to Bayous” to fill the Baker County Library’s old, unused Bookmobile with books, videos and audio books and then donate it all to the Cameron Parish library system in Lousiana, where four of the five libraries were destroyed by Hurricane Rita. Donations came from the community and a book drive organized by Baker Middle School students.

On April 14, Carlson-Conklin and volunteer driver Vic Endicott left Baker City to transport the Bookmobile to Cameron Parish, located west of New Orleans near the Texas border on the Gulf of Mexico.
