Author Iris Chang, 36

Critically acclaimed non-fiction author Iris Chang, 36, was found in her car, dead from a gunshot wound, an apparent suicide. Chang gained prominence at the age of 25 with the publication of her first book, Thread of The Silkworm the story of the Chinese physicist who pioneered China’s missile program during the Cold War. She is best known for her best-selling 1997 book, The Rape of Nanking which revealed the depth of atrocities committed by Japanese soldiers during their occupation of the former Chinese capital in the 1930s. Chang, who had recently been hospitalized for depression, was at work on a new book about US soldiers fighting the Japanese in WW II. More here from BBC, NPR, and Wikipedia.
