Appeals court upholds judgment in librarian suit

“A federal appeals court has upheld a $16.8 million judgment against the Atlanta-Fulton County Public Library System board in a civil suit brought by seven white librarians who said they were discriminated against on the basis of race.”

“A three-judge panel of the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said officials knew it was illegal to consider race in personnel decisions, yet they transferred the women to lesser jobs anyway.”

“The opinion Friday holds three members of the library board and the system’s director financially liable, but the county will cover their costs if it comes to that, said O.V. Brantley, the Fulton County attorney.” (from AP)
