Aotearoa People’s Network Raises Concern

An interesting story out of Middle EarthNew Zealand relates to the Aotearoa People’s Network. The Aotearoa People’s Network is the backbone providing Internet access at libraries in New Zealand. The Marlborough Express reports that a local Internet cafe owner wanted Internet access at local libraries limited to New Zealanders only due to an adverse impact on their cafe’s business. The local council had a committee rule against the request on the grounds that limiting Internet access at libraries according to nationality might violate the country’s Human Rights Act.
