All the president’s books

An Amusing One From The Guardian Book Blog, by Sarah Crown takes a closer look at Bush’s summer reading picks. Their mission was to come up with a reading list that is edifying and – bearing in mind that the president’s favourite book is The Very Hungry Caterpillar – which Bush might actually have a chance of reading.

    NICE
    From that page:

During the campaign Bush was asked what his favorite childhood book was, and he said that it was ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’. Turns out the book was published when Bush was in college.

Somehow, though, I think he was telling the truth, and I think he should be allowed to reread an old favorite.

President has problems, but is literate

the president’s favourite book is The Very Hungry Caterpillar – which Bush might actually have a chance of reading.

I’m raising an objection because this is in the news section and not a journal.

While SOME people MIGHT take the above quote as a commentary on the President’s busy schedule, many more will take it as a commentary on his reading level. George W. Bush has held the highest office in his state and in this country. You cannot get into these offices reading on a third grade level.

Besides, the last several years have shown that the President has read and accepted the conclusions of Rebuilding America’s Defenses: Strategy, Forces and Resources For a New Century, which in September 2000 stated:

While the unresolved conflict with Iraq provides the immediate justification, the
need for a substantial American force presence in the Gulf transcends the issue of the regime of Saddam Hussein.

This report was clearly written at an adult grade level, which the President clearly understands. Making fun of his reading skills belongs in opinion and not in news. Unless something comes to light where the President were to be shown strugging with reading. I think we would have heard something about that by now.
