searchengineswebperson sends this MSNBC story that announces the most re-read books as determined by the findings of an American Library Association committee. Alice Walker’s “The Color Purple” is joined by works of Shakespeare, the Harry Potter series and “Pride and Prejudice.”
The findings were not ranked and were based both on the committee members’ personal opinions and those of library patrons. Only novels, plays and short stories were considered; panel officials said the Bible and the Quran are likely the most re-read texts in the world.
The ALA committee was composed of both librarians and editors with the trade publications Library Journal and Booklist.”
Fiction or Ref?
For my money, the Bible and the Qu’ran should be classed as reference texts for studies such as this one.
Re-reading
Honestly, I can’t stand re-reading fiction; the only exception is when a new book in a series is coming out, and it’s been so long since the last one that I’m forced to skim to recap events.
Much in the way of non-fiction, on the other hand, bears re-reading; this is (obviously) much more so for reference texts. 😉
Committee on re-reading books?
So this is what my ALA dues are going for! Wonderful! I’m paying $135 a year so ALA can have committees on what books people are rereading. How about revamping that website and coming up with a REAL marketing campaign?
