ALA Banned Books Week/Intellectual Freedom Links

For any other lollygaggers who are just now putting together their PR, programming and displays for Banned Books Week (Sept 20-27), I finally stumbled on an ALA page that has a fairly well organized and comprehensive set of links. It was easier for me to find the material I wanted from this long page, than the other OIF and BBW pages.

    Other leadership needed at ALA
    American Library Association’s J. Krug failed to consider the possibility that librarians could do the censoring of public city archives at our Boston Public Library. ALA needs other leadership for intellectual freedom.

    NCTE (National Council of Teachers of English) has some helpful resources for responding to the book banning crowd. Intended primarily for teachers of middle- and high-school students, the information here may also be useful for librarians. Materials include tips on how to write a rationale in defense of a book, a few sample rationales, a list of all prepared rationales available from NCTE, and information on how to order a CD-ROM containing over 200 rationales.
