Advertising in ebooks? A Purina edition of “Marley and Me”? Blog post here. June 12, 2009 by Bibliofuture Uncategorized 6
No Thank-You
so, I’m reading a murder mystery and the victim is strangled….. We are going to find an advertisement for Pierre Cardin ties?
No Thank-you…. I am so glad books do not have advertisements…..although some are so awful, ads might make for better reading.

Reading skills
You obviously did not read the piece. The idea was to put any advertising before the text of the book so that there was no disruption of the story.
big deal… you’ll read the ads and learn to love them
it will happen, don’t fight it. and you will purchase ebooks with ads in them. because they will be cheaper, or even free.
you are so outraged now, but there was a time when wearing a “Nike” shirt was unthinkable… “why would anyone pay to advertise a company?” all the rational people thought. but today, you would claw your gfs eyes out for that Coach bag with its fabulous logo confirming your excellent taste.
so yes, some ebooks will have ads and they will cost 50% of the ad-free versions, and you will buy them and not care about the things you seem to care about now.
I just wonder how soon until the text is actually altered as AN says (yes, the same AN who thinks its ok to rip me on AL’s blog)– how soon until we see this:

Oh…
“Tom appeared on the sidewalk with a bucket of Behr whitewash and a long-handled brush. He surveyed the fence, and all gladness left him and a deep melancholy settled down upon his spirit which reminded him to take his Cymbalta.”
Funny! Thank you for making me laugh.
Kindle owner
I am a Kindle owner and I would be all for ads if there was a specific price drop because of them. I would really like a model where you had a choice. A choice between, an ad sponsored copy and a non ad sponsored copy, and you could choose which one you wanted. If the ads were before the text in almost every circumstance I would choose the ad supported copy. Especially for an ebook where no paper is being wasted on the ads.
