Biblia, the Warrior Librarian writes “Although not thrilled with the image portrayed by the Pearl Librarian action doll, I’m still pondering whether it is better, or worse, than that proposed by the UK Guardian where an article leads with the statement that “Libraries are brothels for the mind
The Story, is at the Guardian“
Some great quotes in this one!
“Libraries were the original internet. All knowledge was available even in a local branch library. You could order a book and, if they didn’t have it, they’d get it from a library in Yorkshire that did. This would give you the double pleasure of having the book you wanted and the knowledge that a Yorkshireman would be searching in vain for it. Of course, many libraries now have free internet access, which is useful for looking up things online, such as the library opening times.“
A New Image
This story will be be totally lost on American libarians for two reasons – they’re American and they’re librarians, both of which lack a sense of irony, not to mention a sense of humor (with the exception of maybe Blake Carver himself).
Re:A New Image
I would hope that’s not the case! But then again, how many Americans have already begged their families for the DVD’s of the complete Blackadder series, like myself? I still don’t get Bean though.
Re:A New Image
I’m tempted to re-moderate A.P.’s comment to 5: Insightful, but s/he probably wouldn’t get the joke.
Re:A New Image
Okay, I’m resenting the heck out of that. Like Katie, I’m a huge fan of Blackadder. I asked for (and finally got) the Special Edition DVD set of Monty Python and the Holy Grail for my birthday. One of my all-time favorite TV shows is Are You Being Served, and as far as I’m concerned, Drew Carey can’t hold a candle to Clive Anderson.
