steven bell writes \”Ananova reported that Tsering Gyaltsen Sherpa, 32, will be opening an Internet cafe on Mount Everest in March 2003. The cafe will be located at the Khumbu glacier at 5,300 metres to allow climbers to access the Web. Climbers will pay a hefty fee to use the transmitter that will connect to the Internet, but local residents will also be allowed to use it to connect. Apparently, according to the story, this is not the first Internet cafe at Mount Everest. An earlier operation was destroyed in 2001.
