A Look Back With Postcards

Organized by local historian and staff reference librarian Ginny Moore, the
Westford’s J.V. Fletcher Library in Westford, MA (“Serving Westford since 1797!”) is now hosting a display of historical postcards dating back to the 1890s.

Included among the collection of about four-dozen cards dating from the 1890s to the 1940s, on display until mid to late August, is a card that features a photograph of the Old Fletcher Tavern at 2 Hildreth
St., where Moore said Daniel Webster courted his future wife, Grace Fletcher. The tavern was built in 1713 and is now a private residence.

Military monuments, the after effects of the 1938 hurricane and the great Forge Village train wreck are also featured.

“It’s fun to note how the trees have grown and how the buildings have changed,â€? Moore said yesterday. Story in the Lowell Sun .
