No I’m afraid he isn’t. You can’t paint the grass blue and call it the sky, or you can just don’t expect to be taken seriously after you do.

She’s not alone.
I know this link is in the comments on the article itself, but it’s worth repeating here.

Ms. Davis is a pioneer, and incredibly courageous, but she’s far from the “only transgender person to make a successful transition”. There have been, and continue to be, many others.

You can label it flamebait if you want but if stories are going to be posted that have nothing to do with libraries and everything to do with a person’s personal habits then you are going to get opinions that are personal in nature.

I don’t suppose someone with cavalier attitudes toward personal liberities, however, should be expected to have any better attitudes towards personal dignity. (Come to that, the two are inseperable and almost certainly synonymous.)

Your sex is what you are on the outside, a matter of what plumbing you have; your gender is what you are on the inside, a matter of psychosexual dynamics. They don’t always match. When in doubt, the psychosexual dynamics have precedence. A transexual is referred to, as a matter of simple human courtesy, by the pronouns matching his or her gender.

Modern Jim Crow
In the era of Jim Crow there was segregation in the U.S. Water fountains, for example, would be labeled “white” or “colored”. This segregation has ended. The modern Jim Crow is that bathrooms are marked “men” and “women”. Since gender is based on what a person perceives their gender to be and not on physical characteristics all restrooms should be multigender. Segregation by gender should stop just as segregation via race was stopped.

Thanks Karl. It was a great story, but that was a really odd remark for her to make. I’d like to know what she means. Unless maybe it refers to the fact that she literally transformed over the course of a weekend. Still…

Given the tone these types of stories bring out in a small portion of the population one has to wonder if they’re encompassed by the same shawdow as the Haggards, Foleys and Mehlmans of the world.

If I was ‘asserting my manhood’ like this guy was asserting his whatever I’d have to offer a seminar on my sexual habits and invite a reporter along for the ride in order to try and get a big story out of it.

Heaven forbid anyone comment on what amounts to a PR stunt.
