A Comparision of the Size of the Yahoo and Google Indices

It is the opinion of this study that Yahoo!’s claim to have a web index of over twice as many documents as Google’s index is suspicious. Unless a large number of the documents Yahoo! has indexed are not yet available to its search engine, we find it puzzling that Yahoo!’s search engine consistently returned fewer results than Google.”

    Okay, open note to Yahoo and Google:

    Boys, boys, boys. It’s not the size of your index that matters, it’s how you use it.

    You can have the world’s BIGGEST index, but if you haven’t got the ability to use it well you’re just not going to give that satisfaction to the other person. As a matter of fact, if you use your great big index badly, you might cause them pain.

    I mean, when you see commercials advertising how you can increase the size of your index, don’t be so quick to jump at that chance. Perhaps you should think more about your index’s “staying power.” Your index should be relevant to its user’s desires, and an old, flimsy index just won’t stand up to today’s necessities.

    Okay, I’m done…

    No I’m not. My index is so big it has a fiveskin… There. Now I’m done.

    Ha!…who sayz librarians have no sense of humor! love it! Laffed so much I almost tumbled off my chair!

    Hey…I can see it now…spam with subject lines like…”amaze her with the size of your index”, etc. etc.

    There was a great, funny, (unfortunately controversial) commercial about this a few years ago, where two women are watching men drive up to the valet at a restaurant and get out of their cars…they conversation implied big car/small –
    At the end the car that was being advertised was shown and as the guy got out, one of the gals said “I wonder what HE’S” got under the hood???”
