10 overseas writers we should be reading

From Guardian Unlimited Books: They asked some experts to select 10 overseas writers we should be reading. Awarding the international Man Booker prize this week to the Albanian novelist Ismail Kadare, the critic John Carey complained that foreign literature is ‘neglected’ in Britain.

    Like the writer’s of the article, I had to ask “who?” as well when I saw the name of the Man Booker Prize winner. I read over the list, and I could say I only knew one author. Looks like I have some reading to do. I may not read all of them, but one or two do sound very intriguing from the blurps. It does illustrate the need in the U.S. to get more works from around the world. Gale’s Literature Community News had an article on the issue of translations, which may go nicely with this.
