Kathleen writes “ A 400-year-old book on surgery found under the floorboards of a lawyer’s home in Edinburgh is the 1634 edition of The Workes of that famous Chirurgion Ambrose Parey – translated out of Latin and compared with the French”.
It is one of Paré’s 10 books of surgical knowledge and one of only 22 in existence printed in English.
The book has now been gifted to the Royal College of Surgeons which will restore it and put it on display.”
