New owners are renovating a four-story structure, down in Charleston, for office or retail space. While they’ve hired a construction company to make the building handicapped-accessible and change the look of the interior, the one thing they haven’t been able to do is get someone to move out the books.

“We’ve asked the Regional Jail Authority and some nonprofit groups and nobody wants them,” Greer said. “If someone can take them all, they can have them.”

They say the collection, which includes a range of newer fiction and some older legal and reference works, might make nice decor for any law firm that decides to move in.
