3-D search engines?

Steffers writes Yahoo! is reporting that Purdue Univ. researchers have developed a 3-D search engine. The idea is that search engines are limited by only being able to search with words; whereas a 3-D search engine could search for 3-D objects. The user sketches the desired object and queries the database. With any luck, the user will get the desired object and then some.

“Then again, text can be far more precise than a sketch. If you’re searching for information about baseball Hall of Famers, there’s little chance a computer will misunderstand a query for “Willie Mays.” “
