Library officials in Wyoming admit they’re walking a thin line between limiting access and limiting potential problems.
Wyoming police detectives visited the district library branch this summer and saw known gang members sitting behind computers. Wyoming Police Chief James Carmody says gang members are using computers as a high-tech method of intimidation.
A little clarification, and…
The “Wyoming” the article refers to is the town of Wyoming, Michigan.
And I’ve got to wonder whether “known gang members” would actually engage in nefarious cyber-activities in a public place-and on a computer and network they’ve got to log onto with credentials that would identify them afterwards. It’s curious that the story lacks elaboration as to just what these “gang members” were allegedly doing online.
You don’t suppose that police stops for “driving while black” have moved onto the information superhighway, do you?
