Jess sent over more From Wisconsin. Gina Cornell, president of the Marathon County Public Library Board of Trustees, Says We Got It All Wrong, those other stories seem to reflect a lack of information and, in some cases, outright misinformation. In actuality, the existing MLS, librarian positions were eliminated, and four new MLS positions were created.
For example, the reduced amount of work requiring a master’s degree is a direct result of increased electronic access to information they previously provided. In 2007, only about 57 percent of the reference (complex) questions from the past year were handled at the Adult Reference Desk. This seems to be a trend based on increasing access to the Internet. This movement is taking place all over the country, causing many libraries to re-examine and restructure how information services are being provided by library staff.
Hmm, not podcast listeners?
Perhaps the folks out there would’ve benefited from this week’s discussion with Don Reisinger about tech use? After all, he does write about tech trends a wee bit.
My editorial comment at this point is that the referenced piece shows what “faith-based librarianship” looks like. I don’t see causality links in the excerpted passage let alone a firm foundation to such thinking. The article overall makes some very interesting assumptions about the area that do not seem to be justified by what the demographics data shows that I just quickly scraped. Is the library patrons becoming in that community far more sophisticated of an information consumer compared to John Q. Public? Or does this piece show tell-tale signs of faith-based librarianship where some things are taken as articles of faith regardless of what might otherwise be ascertained by a rational observer?
This piece rather clearly shows that John N. Berry is not losing his mind at all but rather has quite a good perspective of things.

Complex reference question?
Complex reference question? Do people actually ask those anymore?
The most complex reference question was “How much does the human head weigh?” It was from the same guy who called every few days with questions like that… how much does the skin weigh, how much does any eyeball weigh.
Let me help you the director finds librarians to be of little value. Why are people discussing this, the librarians should quit and all others should refuse to work there until they reinstate the original librarians at their original salaries.
Like that will ever happen. There is always some MLS degree holder in the shadows willing to work for minimum wage.
